    Natasja Lefevre, installation of 3 unique terracotta & iron sculptures, +/- 65 x 50 x 45 cm, 2011. Price: 3.400-€ each

Asked about her work, the artist explains to us: “Before I began working with clay, I was photographing animal cadavers for a series called Road Kill,” she continues “To me, there is something poetic about the empty shell of a cadaver, the stare of a dead, its unseeing eye. The tension between life and death is captured in their shape. With my photos, I wanted to reflect on death as anecdote, present the polarity of life and death.” Lefevre’s work in clay continues to explore the duality of existence: the eternal versus the transient, the visible versus the invisible. Her sculptures always strike a balance between the mysterious and the ordinary.

Natasja Lefevre, "Sheep coming - sheep going", white clay ceramic, +/- 50 cm x 45 cm x 16 cm, price: 950-€ each.

    'EPIPHYTES'

ep·i·phyte n.: A plant that grows on another plant, depending upon it for mechanical support but not for nutrients.

    FROM 31 JANUARY TO 02 MARCH 2012

PRIVATE VIEW: MONDAY 30 JANUARY, 7-9 PM
In this exhibition, Moerman brings together a collection of works that introduces his intensely distinctive practice to the region. His works, using marker pens and acrylics, are obsessive investigations of pattern and technique creating highly elaborate networks of lines and motifs. They evoke the disciplines of tattooing, Islamic and Japanese calligraphy, biomorphic design and graffiti.
His career has seen his drawing spread virally over an indiscriminate range of surfaces such as cars, animals, human bodies, walls, building facades. In 'Epiphytes', Moerman regenerates with his complex circumvolutions a series of Orientalist painting reproductions alongside iconic Kate Moss and other top model photographs. Beyond this, aluminum boxes, objects, and the gallery's space will surrender themselves to his art.

Kurt Salmon : Culture & Economy

Kurt Salmon : Culture & Economy

    Mardi 24 janvier 2012 à 16h00

Stakes and opportunities of cultural and creative enterprises in Belgium

No economic growth without art !” - This statement still scares people off even if artists and leading representatives of the business community have long been following new paradigms. And that’s exactly the wedding of opposites that Kurt Salmon explored by studying the dynamics of creative and cultural enterprises in Belgium. More and more individuals turn to the purple economy, a new alliance between culture and the economy. They face specific challenges in terms of skills, access to finance, digital shift, copyright, innovation, customer experience, and internationalization.

How can the public and private sector help the cultural ecosystem flourish ? How to improve the impacts of culture in the economy and our society ?

More than 200 responses to our online survey and 60 qualitative interviews with key actors of each sector allowed us to understand how entrepreneurs are approaching the challenges of doing business in the cultural and creative fields in Belgium.

The results of this study will be presented during this exclusive event in Brussels at The Egg, a creative Living Lab, where Culture & Business come together to Innovate.
